CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — The Girl Scouts of Central Illinois celebrated the opening of their new service space Sunday.
The space includes a boutique for scouts and a Build-A-Bear Workshop.
CEO Jennifer Sedbrook said the partnership with Build-A-Bear aims to promote growth for kids.
"The hope is that they'll be able to see how important it is for them to have some decision-making responsibilities, and that they'll have a true friend with them as well and they'll invite others to do that," Sedbrook said.Â
Girls can become a girl scout as young as kindergarten and participate through high school. Prior to this new location, Girl Scouts of Central Illinois had a smaller space for programs and meetings.
Fun activities such as this are familiar for Ambassador Leah Becker. Becker has been a girl scout since she was able to become one and is excited for younger girls to experience additions like this.
"Girl Scouts are so important. I grew up with it and it has changed my life," Becker said. "I have gone on adventures. I've gone places that I wouldn't have if I wasn't a part Girl Scouts and it's just so important to let other people experience that."
This new space is open to the public for parties and other events.Â
"I hope that it's seen as a resource for the community, not just for girls and Girl Scouts, but for the larger community," Sedbrook said. "We're here for all kids and adults."
