DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — While high temperatures can keep some people from wanting to go outside, a local pool is benefiting from the heat.
Splash Cove has seen larger crowds this week as temperatures soared. Pool staff have been working hard to make sure people are safe and facilities stay open.
Pool managers Aubrey Stump and Grace Lees say this includes taking steps to ensure their life guards stay safe in the heat.
"Some important things that we enforce are, our guards have these cold ice rags on them to keep their body temperature down," Stump said. "We also make sure they are utilizing sunscreen and slipping in the pool whenever they need it."
Lees said they also make sure the staff is drinking lots of water and eating at least two meals while they are at work.Â
Staff say they are better able to take care of swimmers by taking care of themselves.Â
