CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — After more than three decades as a downtown Champaign staple, Cafe Kopi will close its doors in December.
“We are very grateful to the wonderful customers who have supported us through the years. You are what made Cafe Kopi such a special place. Coffeehouses are not just businesses; they are communities where lasting connections are made, and lifelong friendships are forged,” says Cafe Kopi owner, Douglas McCarver. “Cafe Kopi holds a special place in the hearts of many, and while we are saddened by this chapter’s end, we believe that all good things must come to a close. Serving generations of patrons has been both an honor and privilege.”
The shop first opened in 1993 and has been a favorite among University of Illinois students and Champaign locals alike.
Cafe Kopi will remain open through December 15, 2024. As part of their farewell, hours will be extended during the Parade of Lights on November 30. For those with gift cards purchased at Cafe Kopi, they will continue to be honored at all Espresso Royale locations and the Cafe Kopi located in the Gies College of Business.
Updates will be posted at Cafe Kopi's Facebook page.
