MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) - The burn ban for Macon County has been reinstated due to extreme fire risk.

Due to prolonged dry conditions, there is an elevated risk of wildfires and field fires.

County Fire Protection Districts have announced the continuance of a temporary suspension on all open burning activities in Macon County.

The City of Decatur will continue to operate under its regular burn ordinance. Residents within city limits should contact their local fire department with questions about permitted activities.

Open burning is prohibited for residential and agricultural burning and burning of yard waste, brush, leaves, and other natural or combustible materials.

Fire Protection Districts can bill property owners for the costs associated with responses to unauthorized burning incidents.
