MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) - Welcome back to the movies! The Mattoon theater that closed earlier this year is set to reopen under new ownership.
VIP Cinemas will reopen the 10-screen theater located off Route 16 and Interstate 57 before the end of the year.
The theater has been vacant since late summer. It was built by Kerasotes Theatres in 1995 and was most recently operated as an AMC Theater.
VIP Cinemas promises to bring an increased menu, lower prices, and increased hours of operation. Movies will be shown as early as 10 am, and there will be late shows on the weekend.
“Initially, we are focusing on making repairs, replacing projection and sound equipment for a high-quality viewing experience, and plan to make changes over the next year,” explains Josh Ward, Director of Operations for VIP Cinemas. “We’re excited to bring back life to a theater that is a huge part of the community. Everyone we’ve talked with in the area has been relieved to hear their favorite, local movie-going spot is reopening.”
The theater will operate as “VIP Mattoon 10” and will offer an extended hot-food menu with snacks such as chicken tenders, pizzas, and hot dogs.
Starting in 2026, VIP will begin making more changes to the theater such as investing in new seats and more movie offerings.
The address for VIP Mattoon 10 is 2509 Hurst Drive in Mattoon. Showtimes, pricing, and promotions can be found online at vipcinemas.com.
The theater is also hiring for all positions. You can apply at vipcinemas.com/job.
