CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) – A new Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District bus route will give Carle Health patients easier, more consistent access to the Carle Champaign on Curtis campus.
The new 17 Cherry route begins service Monday, Aug. 10. It will provide direct transportation to the high-traffic care campus, located at 1818 E. Windsor Road in Champaign, which has served the community since 2008.
MTD buses will stop on the south side of the campus along Congressional Way, off Mattis Avenue. The route will operate during regular MTD weekday daytime service hours and is not expected to affect traffic on campus.
Carle Health said it has worked with MTD to address a long-standing patient request for reliable transportation to the facility.
Carle Champaign on Curtis offers a range of services, including primary care, adult and family medicine, pediatrics, developmental pediatrics, lab and radiology services. The campus also includes a CarleRx Pharmacy, open seven days a week until midnight, along with a Convenient Care location offering walk-in and scheduled appointments every day of the year, including holidays.
“We’re excited for the creation of this new MTD route and the support it offers our patients,” said Dr. Tracy Grotrian of Convenient Care at Carle Champaign on Curtis. “Barriers with travel can prevent community members from receiving the timely and preventative care they need. With better access to local healthcare resources, we improve the overall health of our community.”
Grotrian thanked nearby property owners, the MTD Board of Trustees and MTD staff for their partnership in making the route possible.
