CHATHAM, Ill. (WAND) — Residents in the Chatham area will have a convenient opportunity to apply for a passport this weekend without traveling far from home.

The Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s Office will host a passport registration day on Saturday, January 10, at the Chatham Area Public Library, located at 600 E. Spruce Street. Passport agents will be on site from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. to process applications. Standard passport fees will apply, and current processing times can be found at travel.state.gov.

Library Director Amy Byers says the event is designed to ease the stress of travel planning, especially for families preparing for summer vacations.

“Preparing for family summer vacations can be very stressful,” Byers said. “Luckily, our community members can cross passport registration off their lists without having to leave Chatham. We are so excited to work with the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s Office to offer this service.”

Sangamon County Circuit Clerk Joe Roesch encourages anyone in the area who needs a passport to take advantage of the event.

“We are pleased to partner with local government, banks, and merchants to provide community outreach events,” Roesch said. “Through these events, we hope to make the process of applying for a passport more convenient for everyone.”

Those unable to attend Saturday’s event can still apply in person at the Sangamon County Circuit Clerk’s Office in Springfield Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The office is closed on weekends and court holidays.

Applicants attending the Chatham event are reminded to bring all required documents, including a certified copy of their birth certificate, a valid photo ID, any certified court documents for name changes or custody, and two checks or money orders for applicable fees. Passport photos can be taken on site.
