Dodds Park Champaign

The Champaign Park District will install safety netting at the Dodds Park ball fields.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — The ballparks at Dodds Park in Champaign are getting an upgrade to improve safety.

According to the Champaign Park District, the 3-plex and 4-plex will have netting put up around the fields.

The district said parkgoers may notice new poles being installed at the fields near the walkways and bleachers in the coming weeks. Netting will be added to the poles to provide overhead protection for spectator areas, sidewalks and concessions.

The project will be ongoing until mid-September, but the park will remain open during the installation process, and programming and rentals at the ball fields will not be affected, according to the park district.
