DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Salvation Army is celebrating National Salvation Army Week this week.

May 11 through May 17 marks the week declared by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954, recognizing the impact of the Salvation Army all across the country.

The Salvation Army has served Decatur and Macon County since 1888.

Located at 229 W. Main Street, the Decatur Corps Community Center offers services like food, clothing, shelter assistance, and the "Pathway of Hope" initiative designed to break generational cycles of poverty.

“National Salvation Army Week is an opportunity to celebrate the generosity of our supporters, the dedication of our volunteers, and the resilience of those we serve,” said Corps Officer, Major Randy Summitt. “It is a reminder that together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of our neighbors.”
