SHELBYVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - Shelby Electric Cooperative donated $20,000 to three area organizations, according to a statement from the co-op.
The Christian County YMCA and Moweaqua in Motion each received $9,500. The Shelbyville Silk Purse was awarded $1,000.
The donations are possible through CoBank's sharing success program, according to the co-op.
“Through CoBank's Sharing Success program, we've contributed just under $200,000 since its inception to area organizations to support local causes," said Shelby Electric Member Services Specialist Faith Wheeler. "This partnership is a testament to our commitment to building stronger, more vibrant rural communities. We are excited to see the positive impact our 2025 donation will have on the Christian County YMCA, Moweaqua in Motion and the Shelbyville Silk Purse.”
The co-op said Moweaqua in Motion will use the funds to upgrade a restroom facility. The organization has been working to improve its park system.
The Christian County YMCA has been working to improve its facilities for members and families.
The Shelbyville Silk Purse thrift shop has several locations. Money from sales in Shelbyville is used to support free services at the Family Life Center.
Shelbyville Electric Co-op serves more than 10,000 members across nine Illinois counties.
In recent years, Shelby Electric Co-op and CoBank donations have supported area fire departments, non-profits, and historical societies.
