SPRINGFIELD, ILL. (WAND) — A local boutique opened its doors for the season on Thursday, and business was booming.
Wooden It Be Lovely is a transitional work program where women who are recovering from poverty, addiction, and abuse can work hourly wages, save money, and recover. The goods created by the women are then sold in a boutique.Â
According to the Founder and Executive Director Margaret Ann Jessup, the community is always quick to respond to these events, and love supporting these women who are healing from their struggles.Â
"The community response has been amazing. They always support almost everything we do. They love buying products that are handmade by women that are healing from really hard lives," said Jessup.
The boutique contains a variety of artwork from different women staying at the home. It includes things like painted wooden bunnies, clothing, purses, candles, mugs and more.Â
The W.I.B.L house serves women in recovery who do not have custody of their children. The home is always accepting donations, including art supplies. They can be accepted at Douglas Ave United Methodist, or taken to 801 S. Grand Ave. West.Â
