URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — At around 3:55 p.m. on Halloween, the Urbana Fire Department put out a fire at the Capstone apartments in Urbana in the 1900 block of N. Lincoln Ave.
The UFD dispatched three engines, one ladder, and a command officer to put the fire out. Once they arrived, they found no fire but water coming from an apartment at the Capstone Apartments. Fire crews forced the door to the apartment open and found it full of smoke. The sprinkler system kept the fire from extending past the area of the stove, microwave, and some cabinets.
The fire was then deemed a working fire, and they dispatched Chief officers to the apartments.
No one was in the apartment when the fire started, and no one was hurt. The fire was put out in about 10 minutes. The utilities have been disconnected, and the people who live in the apartment and the one directly below were told the residence is inhabitable at this time.
There are no damage estimates yet, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
