DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Taking on a new hobby can be difficult and expensive. It is hard to learn what to do by yourself, and it can take a lot to purchase all the necessary equipment.
The Thinkwell Makerspace in Decatur tackles these issues and provides both help and equipment.Â
"Thinkwell Makerspace is essentially a space for people to share tools, a place for people to share creative ideas and energy and really gather to try to focus on the practice of problem solving and learning by hands-on," said Executive Director Jesse Blunt.
If you want to try something like laser cutting, 3-D printing, or basic robotics, you can use the materials at the Makerspace and ask for help from the team members there. Members also work together to come up with creative solutions, creating an environment for collaboration and teamwork.Â
"The more the merrier," said Hannah Serbe, administrative assistant for the Makerspace. "We welcome everybody the same, and we show everybody who wants to be a part of it."Â
The makerspace also has STEM programs over the summer for students to help them connect with new technology and science passions.Â
Thinkwell Makerspace is hosting its annual fundraiser on Oct. 11. For more details about the Makerspace, visit their website.
