DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Decatur City Council meets on Monday, October 7 for a regular meeting, and there are three things you need to know before it takes place.
Council is looking to change language to the liquor code, in relation to video gaming. The proposal will allow businesses to get a gaming license if there is a re-development agreement in place.
Council is also posed to discuss a new rule in the transfer of gaming licenses.
Secondly, there will also be discussion on a contract for the Police Union, in reference to possibly expanding residency requirements, a 7% pay raise next year, with a 3% raise to follow between 2026 and 2028. The starting pay for officers would also increase, which they say they hope will help with recruitment.
Thirdly, council is looking to implement a natural gas use tax, which they say will only impact about 200 users, mostly commercial businesses. Members said this recommendation is to provide necessary revenue.
City council meets on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the Decatur Civic Center.
