SAVOY, Ill. (WAND) -- A Savoy man is dead after he crashed into a tree Friday night.
It happened in the 400 block of Wesley Avenue around 10:45 p.m.
Champaign County Sheriff's Office said, Gaddis McAfee, 48, was driving north on Wesley Avenue at a high rate of speed when his car left the road and hit a tree.
McAfee, the sole occupant, was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
McAfee was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, the sheriff's office said. Deputies also said alcohol and/or drugs may have been a contributing factor.
This crash remains under investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office.
