RANTOUL, Ill. (WAND) - A teen is hospitalized after being hit by a police car in Champaign.

The Rantoul Police Department said in a press release that officers, the Rantoul Fire Department and Arrow Ambulance responded to a call around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of East Champaign Avenue regarding a car versus pedestrian incident.

After first responders arrived at the scene, it was discovered that a 13-year-old had been hit by a Champaign police car.

The teen was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for serious injuries.

The initial investigation from Rantoul PD indicates that the teen ran out into the street from the Credit Union One parking lot, crossed both lanes of traffic going east, and collided with the car, which had been traveling west at the time.

The incident remains under investigation.
