MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) - An investigation is underway after a 17-year-old girl was hit and killed by a train in Mattoon Thursday morning.Â
Mattoon Police Chief Sam Gaines told WAND it happened around 8:45 a.m. on the tracks north of Dewitt Ave.
The train was headed northbound when it hit the teenager who was on foot.
Mattoon police are working with the coroner's office, Mattoon fire, and Canadian National railway as the investigation continues.Â
