CHAMPAIGN COUNTY Ill. (WAND) - Nine people were arrested on charges of driving under the influence in Champaign County this past weekend.Â
Champaign County Sheriff Dustin Heuerman said weekend activity included nine arrests for DUI and two traffic stops that also included seizure of illicit drugs and/or a firearm.
On Friday, January 30, at about 7 p.m., a Champaign County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 900-blk of W Beardsley in Champaign. A K-9 alerted on the vehicle. Deputies found cannabis, cocaine, and open alcohol. After a brief altercation with the driver who CSCO said tried to leave the scene,Â
Demetrice Miller, 42, from Urbana, he was taken into custody for Aggravated DUI, Driving with a Revoked License, Possession of Adult Use Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, and Delivery/Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver.Â
On Friday, January 30, at 8:22 p.m., a Champaign County Sheriff’s deputy was called to the Casey’s in Philo for a male passed out in a vehicle. The driver, identified as Kenneth Hall, 53, from Philo, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.
On Friday, January 30 at approximately 11:31 p.m., a Champaign County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop in the area of Cunningham Avenue and Oakland Avenue in Urbana. When asked to exit the vehicle for field sobrietyÂ
testing, the driver, identified as Steve Moffett, 34, from Urbana, tried to speed off in his vehicle, with deputies and other officers on scene being required to move quickly to avoid being struck, the sheriff's office said.Â
Moffett got out of his vehicle after hitting another, unoccupied vehicle, and was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle yielded:
o Approximately 60 grams of suspected cannabis flower
o Approximately 50 grams of suspected crack cocaine
o Approximately 19 grams of suspected cocaine
o 114 suspected Fentanyl pills
o 11 suspected Ecstasy tablets
o Miscellaneous other cannabis-related items
o A loaded 9mm pistol with a defaced serial number
Moffett was arrested for Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, Driving on a Revoked License, Fleeing/Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons, Armed Violence, Defacing the Serial Number on a Firearm, and Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, among other offenses.Â
On Saturday, January 31, at approximately 12:55 a.m., Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a crash at the intersection of Curtis Road and Prospect Avenue in Savoy. The driver of the at fault vehicle, identified as Diamond Brown, 28, from Champaign, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and cited for Driving with a Suspended License, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, and Improper Lane Usage.
On Saturday, January 31 at about 8:30 p.m., Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a vehicle that had slid off the road in the area of Dunlap Avenue and Dunlap Ct. in Savoy. The driver, identified as Linda Lujano, 25, from Urbana, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and Driving Too FastÂ
for Conditions.
On Saturday, February 1 at approximately 12:15 a.m., a Champaign County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Main Street and Vine Street in Urbana. The driver, identified as Keyanah Carter, 34, ofÂ
Champaign, was arrested for Driving under the Influence of Alcohol and Operating a Vehicle with a Suspended Registration.
On Saturday, February 1 at about 12:40 a.m., a Champaign County Sheriff’s deputy was tending to an abandoned vehicle in the area of Airport Road and Dunlap Avenue in Savoy when he saw a vehicle going West on Airport Road go through a stop light and was hit by another vehicle that was travelingÂ
North on Dunlap Avenue. The driver of the vehicle that ran the light, identified as Abby Wells, 40, from Savoy was arrested for Aggravated Driving Under the Influence and Disobeying a Traffic Control Device. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Carle Hospital with serious injuries.
On Saturday, February 1 at approximately 12:53 a.m., while investigating the crash at Airport Road and Dunlap Avenue in Savoy, an unrelated vehicle drove into the crash scene and was stopped by a deputy. The driver of this vehicle, identified as Jacob Colter, 27, from Tolono, was arrested for Driving UnderÂ
the Influence of Alcohol.
On Sunday, February 1, 2026 at approximately 11:47 p.m., a Champaign County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for improper lane usage in the area of Cunningham Avenue and Kerr Avenue in Urbana. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Cortez Gardner, 44, from Urbana, was arrested for DrivingÂ
Under the Influence of Drugs and Improper Land Usage.Â
