SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND)-- A fan favorite attraction at the Illinois State Fair, featured in Conservation World is catching the attention of many visitors to this year's celebration. The lumberjack show is providing a one-of-a-kind experience to members of their audience.
Lyle LeCaptain, a lumberjack entertainer says, 5.40 "I was born into it, so I have been doing it for many years."
LeCaptain has been participating in timber sports his whole life, but now is dedicated to showing others the beauty and excitement that come along with seeing the acts. Being a lumberjack entertainer takes a lot of hard work and practice, and many will spend years perfecting their acts.
"Years and years of practice. A lot of people that are in the show have gone to college and done it there on woodsman teams, conclave teams, things like that."
The show has something for every member of the family.
"We're a family-oriented show traveling all across the country promoting timber sports."
While the performers travel all around the country, they are now sharing their talents with the people of Illinois and even teaching some people what it takes to be a woodsman. Visitors can expect to see a wide variety of acts at the show including axe throwing, crosscut sawing, wood carving, and log rolling. Lecaptain says that the Illinois State Fair is truly unique when it comes to the people you can find in the audience.
"The Illinois State Fair is basically one of one when it comes to the people. You've got Midwestern people. They're good quality wholesome people coming to the fair wanting to have a good time."
He also says to be prepared to have a good time and if you didn't know what wood sports were before the show, the performers will show the audience why lumberjacks are truly a cut above.
"Be prepared to laugh and see some old-time traditional wood chopping."
The lumberjack performers have been at the Illinois State Fair for 8 years attracting visitors from all across the state of Illinois.
