The Animal Protective League in Springfield is assessing significant damage after a severe storm and strong winds struck its facility late Wednesday night.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Animal Protective League in Springfield needs help fostering cats and dogs that were displaced in the tornado last week. 

APL's shelter and clinic were destroyed in the storm. 

Fosters are needed for more than 50 cats and dogs. 

APL will provide everything needed for fosters including leashes, collars, crates, toys, beds, food, and more. To become a foster volunteer, fill out an application here. 

APL is a shelter partner of national nonprofit Best Friends Animal Society. Best Friends is supporting APL through emergency response including financial stipends and moving pets to other shelters and rescue groups.
