DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - An armed man was arrested after a standoff with Danville police Friday morning.

Danville police were called to the 2900 block of East Main Street at 2:13 a.m. for reports of an armed person.

The person who called police told them 36-year-old Marquil L. Brown of Georgetown, Illinois was visiting the home, armed with a handgun, and acting erratically. They asked police to come take Brown out of the home.

Officers tried to contact Brown, but they said he refused to cooperate or come out. The Danville Police Emergency Response Unit (ERU) was activated and tried to negotiate with Brown but were unsuccessful.

ERU members then went into the home and took Brown into custody.

Police found the gun during a search of the home.

DPD said Brown has felony convictions and was on parole, making it illegal for him to have a gun.

Brown was booked into the Danville Public Safety Building on preliminary charges of Unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (UUW), Obstructing justice, and Criminal trespass to residence.

Anyone who has more information about this is asked to call Danville Police at (217) 431-2250 or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-TIPS.
