DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The ongoing drought means weeks of lake levels dropping across central Illinois, but the recent rain has been good news.

The City of Decatur shared that water levels at Lake Decatur have gone up more than a foot since Tuesday and continue rising.

Robert Weil, general manager of water production for Decatur, said after every drought, the city has historically made improvements to prepare for the next one.

"After every drought, the city did something. One time in 1953, they raised the level of the dam, and that added a lot of storage. As we come out of this, we're gonna look at what we can do to pass it along for better preparedness for the future," Weil said.

He added that the chances of mandatory water restrictions in the area are becoming less likely as time passes.
