Joseph L. Williams, 22

DECATUR (WAND) - A Decatur attempted murder suspect had his charges dismissed in court and is now out of custody.

Joseph L. Williams, 22, was arrested in September 2020 in connection to recent Decatur gun violence. He was accused of involvement in an Aug. 30, 2020 attempted murder, which authorities said happened in the 700 block of E. Clay St.

All charges he faced, including two counts of attempted first degree murder, one charge of home invasion, two counts of aggravated battery, two counts of possession of a weapon by a felon and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, were dismissed in court Monday.

Inmate records showed his release from jail happened Tuesday morning.

Macon County State's Attorney Scott Rueter told WAND News the charges against Williams were dismissed because the alleged victims in the case were not being cooperative and their help was needed to move forward with prosecution.

The case is still considered open, Rueter said.
