DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – A blind Illinois man puts his talent on display every week in the Decatur community.
Anthony Richard started learning how to play piano at 5 years old. He’s been blind since birth and still shares his musical skills at the age of 62.
“I’ve been playing for a long time,” Richard said. “I taught myself the scale.”
Richard performs three days each week for Macon Resources Inc., a company known for giving people with disabilities employment opportunities. His focus is on gospel music and songs made by Elvis.
MRI leaders say people come in to hear Richard play and event request songs.
Richard says he would never let blindness slow him down.
“I’ve never been able to see, but I don’t let it stop me,” he said. “Anyone can do it. Don’t let anything like that stop you.”
