SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The Springfield Police Department has released body camera footage showing an officer shoot an armed teenager at the Sangamon County Juvenile Detention Facility.

On September 30 at 7:45 p.m. officers responded to an active shooter call at the Sangamon County Juvenile Detention Facility.

Information was received that a subject was armed, had possibly shot someone and was holding another hostage.

When officers arrived, they found the armed teen at the entrance to the facility where he was shot by Springfield Police.

The suspect, 17-year-old Camren Darden of Springfield, was taken to HSHS St. John’s Hospital where he died at 9:41 p.m. from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Sangamon County Coroner, Jim Allmon.

A second person was treated for a gunshot wound and was treated and released.

All SPD officers involved in the incident have been cleared by the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office according to a release from the department.

Back in early October, Springfield Police Chief Ken Scarlette said he was impressed by his officers' actions.

“The first priority in any active shooter scenario is to stop the threat,” Scarlette told reporters Tuesday. “Our officers are trained on that. Our officers did just that upon their arrival at the scene.”

The Springfield Police Department released video of the shooting on Thursday.

The video contains the scene of a disturbing situation that may not be appropriate for some viewers.
