Body found after shots fired in Decatur

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – A body was found at the scene of where police responded to a shots fired call late Thursday.

Police roped off an area at the intersection of Whitmer Street and 21st Street in Decatur just before 7:44 p.m. Upon arriving officers say they found a 25-year-old Decatur man shot to death. 

A neighbor told WAND-TV they heard five gunshots and saw at least one car speeding away from the area. 

"It's just one of those things that's happening with Decatur," said Richard Jestis. "It's becoming a decaying city. They can try to fix everything they want but there's no fixing it anymore. It's just too late for Decatur." 

The victim was identified as 25-year-old Marcqui S. Apholone of Decatur. He died from multiple gunshot wounds.
