SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - It's been over eight months since a fire on Adams Street destroyed several buildings, including the one that housed Cafe Moxo.

Adams Street Fire Damage

Property destroyed by the massive fire at 413 and 415 E. Adams Street in Springfield.

Now, the business has reopened at a new location, 2661 Chatham Road. The beloved chicken pot pies and cookies are still available, as well as much of the original menu. The new location features pops of Cafe Moxo's signature red color, as well as pictures of their original location downtown.

"We wanted to make sure that the same Cafe Moxo that had to leave at noon on August 19th, reopened again this past Saturday on the 8th of March," said Cafe Moxo owner Mark Forinash. "We are the same Cafe Moxo, but we brought in some new sandwiches. We brought in some soup flights, and, we really put a lot of energy into the coffee bar."

Forinash was able to maintain eleven of his original staff members through the transition and said many of Cafe Moxo's diehard fans are resuming the same weekly or monthly transitions of visiting. Forinash said the successful re-opening wouldn't have been possible without the community's support.

While he would have loved to reopen downtown, he couldn't find any property that would work for the business. He does hope to bring Cafe Moxo back downtown in some capacity in the future, and plans to continue to support his former neighbors.

"Downtown and the Adams family is near and dear to my heart and they will never be forgotten," said Forinash. "We're still going to figure out how we can still be engrained in the Adams family and how we can help the recovery process moving forward."
