CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — Next time you're at the movies, you may notice a familiar setting on the screen. That's because Champaign and surrounding areas will be featured in the romance drama, "Albany Road".Â
The film hit theaters Thursday, November 14, and will play in 109 AMC Theaters across the country, including in Champaign.Â
Mark Brown, director of event services and film for Experience Champaign-Urbana, said this big break will help open more opportunities in the film industry.Â
"We kind of have our big break on the big screen at AMC theaters with 'Albany Road', we do anticipate a lot of growth within the film industry within the next few years," said Brown
With several film festivals in the area like 'Ebertfest' and the building of a new sound stage studio in Rantoul, Brown said the film industry continues to grow in Champaign County.Â
"Here at the Champaign County Film Office, we started several years ago, and we started small, obviously, because we weren't really used to, you know, getting our feet wet, I guess you could say with the film industry. But I really feel like within the last few years, we have blossomed into a hub for film-making in Central Illinois," said Brown.Â
You can catch the film at and AMC Theater near you and spot out any locations you recognize.
"And I think it really kind of amplifies the film scene, filmmaker scene here in Champaign Urbana and the surrounding county, just because people are able to see, you know, places where they live and work, very familiar places like Willard airport and the Hill Street parking deck and things like that on the big screen nationwide," said Brown.Â
