CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The Champaign Police Department held a law enforcement memorial procession in memory of Corporal Brandon Schreiber Wednesday morning.

Schreiber, a Newton County, Indiana Sheriff's Deputy, who was shot in Sheldon, Illinois, did not survive his injuries.

The Newton County Sheriff's Office shared an update Tuesday afternoon on Facebook, stating Corporal Brandon Schreiber is an organ donor. The post said his sacrifice will present the opportunity for him to help many other people.

Corporal Schreiber was shot in the line of duty on September 1, 2024.

A law enforcement procession left Carle Hospital in Urbana at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, going east along University Ave. It turned north on Randolph and east on Church St., honoring Corporal Schreiber as he is transported to Springfield along Interstate 72.

Police Chief Timothy T. Tyler said, "Our hearts are heavy today as we honor a man who has made the ultimate sacrifice in service to his community. We mourn his loss, grieve for his department and his family, and pay our respects."
