A prayer vigil was held on the east courthouse lawn at 7 p.m. Monday evening.
Newton County Sheriff S. L. Cothran said there was a big turnout at the vigil. He sent WAND News a statement saying:
"We work for the best communities/county there is. Every officer does their best to be there for the community and the community has shown us they are here for us as well. We are fortunate to live where we live, to have the values and morals that surround us and to not be afraid to publicly have faith in prayer. We cannot thank the community enough for their support, it means more than I could ever put into words. There are literally thousands of people praying for Brandon's recovery and the Schreiber family. Additionally, I have been overwhelmed by the number of agencies that have reached out to offer support or to just check on Brandon.  Our local town police departments, neighboring Sheriff's, local PDs throughout Indiana, Indiana Conservation Officers, both Indiana and Illinois State Police, our own fire departments, various fire districts from Illinois, far too many to even begin to mention by name. The Indiana Sheriffs Association has been a strong support.  Indiana State Police Lowell and Lafayette have been phenomenal with providing coverage and support. ISP Superintendent Doug Carter has personally checked with us about every day to see how Brandon is doing. Champaign Police, Carle's security staff and the FOP Illini Lodge 17 have been absolute rock stars for us and will forever have my gratitude for the way we have been treated and their devotion to assisting the Schreiber family with any needs that may arise. Our own Deputies (AND SPOUSES), Corrections, staff and Dispatchers have been nothing less than rock solid. I say it often and they have all proven it, yet again, we truly have the best! We know a lot of people are hurting with us and we respect that. We are hopeful, positive and strong...SCHREIBERSTRONG!!!"Â
