Decatur, Ill (WAND) – Convey Health Solutions will close its Decatur call center with an estimated 150 workers losing their jobs.
In a letter to employees the company says it is closing its call center because, “The team member turnover and quality issues we have experienced in Decatur has made it impossible for us to provide reliable and consistent performance.”
The announcement comes three years after Convey announced it would take over space in Fairview Plaza which was previously occupied by StarTek. That company also operated a call center. Startek closed its doors in 2012.
Convey initially said it would hire 300 workers and eventually as many as 500. A sign is still hanging on the outside of its building which says, “Now Hiring”.
A Convey employee letter provided to WAND News indicates the worker would be terminated on September 28, 2018. Convey goes on to state in the letter despite rapid growth across all lines of its business in other locations the company has been unable to find the correct formula to make the Decatur location viable. Convey provided service to customers of health plan providers so they can access their health benefits.
The letter was sent to employees to comply with the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. The city of Decatur has also been provided with a WARN notice.
Convey employees needing assistance in obtaining a new job can contact Workforce Investment Solutions at 217-872-5870; or go to 757 W. Pershing Road in Decatur.
