SANGAMON COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) — The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office is investigating a possible murder-suicide after two men were found dead in a home Saturday night.
Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell said the Southern View Police Department went to a home for a welfare check in the 3000 block of South 3rd Street.
Deputies found two men dead inside with gunshot wounds.
Both men, a 37-year-old and a 57-year-old, were occupants of the home.
The sheriff said, based on preliminary evidence and statements to detectives, the situation is believed to be a murder-suicide.
The Sangamon County Coroner identified the victims as Craig Burch, 37, of Southern View and Michael Gaither, 57, of Southern View. Both were pronounced dead at 8 p.m.
The coroner said autopsies showed Michael Gaither died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, and Craig Burch died from a single gunshot wound.
