Court hearings continue for pair of EMS workers accused of killing patient

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The pair of EMS workers accused of strapping a patient face down on a gurney resulting in his death appeared in a Sangamon County courtroom on Monday.

Peter Cadigan and Peggy Finley are charged with first degree murder for the death of Earl Moore Jr. In December of 2022, Cadigan and his coworker, Finley, were on an EMS call to assist Moore. Footage from cameras worn by Springfield Police officers who were also on the call shows Cadigan and Finley strapping Moore in a prone position (face-down) on a stretcher.

An autopsy performed found that his death was caused by compressional and positional asphyxia due to a face-down restraint.

Both Cadigan and Finley are out of jail. Finley posted bond i n April 2023, while Cadigan was relea sed on a pre-trial release motion.

Their next hearing is in October.
