URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - One man was hospitalized following a stabbing in Urbana Friday morning.
The Champaign County Sheriff's Office said that deputies responded to a reported stabbing after 11 a.m. in the 1800 block of North Coler Drive in Urbana.
The Sheriff's Office stated that deputies arrived to find a 45-year-old man stabbed in the back. The victim said that he was riding an electric scooter along Country Club Road when he encountered Emmanuel Oginni, 19, of Chicago, walking in the area.
The victim told deputies that Oginni had "aggressively" come up to him, which caused him to fall off his bike.
Later, the victim followed Oginni, who was said to have become aggressive again, pulled out a knife and stabbed him before leaving the area. According to the Sheriff's Office, a witness on the scene had seen this part of the incident and watched Oginni until deputies arrived.
Champaign County deputies found a knife on Oginni and eventually arrested him.
The victim was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, while Oginni was booked at the Champaign County Jail and charged with aggravated battery.
The investigation is ongoing.
