DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — Danville Police are investigating a possible murder-suicide that happened Friday evening.
Police say they responded to a shots fired call just before 6 p.m. at a house near the 200 block of Grace Street. When they arrived, they found a 32-year-old woman lying in the front yard with gunshot wounds. She was taken to the hospital, where she died.
Officers spoke to witnesses who said they heard the gunshots and saw a man holding a handgun next to the victim. They said he hadn't been seen since going back into the house.
Police failed to make contact with him and called in the Danville Police Emergency Response Unit (ERU) before going into the house. Once inside, officers found a 60-year-old man dead. He appeared to have shot himself.
Police say the names of the victims will not be released at this time pending notifications from the Vermilion County Coroner. Illinois State Police is helping Danville Police with the investigation, which is ongoing.
Anyone with information regarding the incident should call the Danville Police or the Vermilion County Crime Stoppers.
