ATWOOD, Ill. (WAND) - Atwood K9 Unit helped make an arrest in pitch-black darkness over the weekend thanks to a four-legged officer.

The Atwood Police Department K9 unit said it responded Jan. 25 to help Monticello police track down a suspect who had run from them during a traffic stop.

The suspect was said to be wanted on active warrants and was known to run from police.

An Atwood police K9 named Hank arrived to help MPD track down the suspect in a half-mile area in the woods in deep snow.

APD stated that the temperature was eight degrees with a -11 wind chill.

Officers could not see anything and had to rely on Hank to find the suspect.

Hank eventually found the suspect who was arrested with incident.

Atwood police added that Hank might have saved the suspect's life, as they were not dressed for the weather and struggled to walk on their own.

The full body cam footage is available on ADP's Facebook page.
