DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — After multiple rescheduled dates, a Decatur mother found guilty on possession of child pornography charges was sentenced Thursday.

Doug and Kelly Nichols were both found guilty of possessing child pornography in Macon County Court in October 2024. The pair was set to be sentenced in November, but the date has been postponed several times.

In April, the Nichols' lawyer withdrew from the case due to a "conflict of interest." Their new attorney asked for the sentencing to be pushed back again so he had enough time to review evidence and read trial transcripts.

On Thursday, after hours of testimony and witness statements, the judge sentenced Kelly Nichols to 6 years in jail. A sentencing for Doug is still pending. He is expected to be back in court in July. 

Doug will also return to court for separate charges including criminal sexual assault of a minor and aggravated criminal sexual assault of a minor.

Both will be registered sex offenders for life.
