SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – Springfield’s municipal utility, City, Water, Light and Power will be looking to the sun to provide additional energy.
CWLP has received approval from the city to enter into a 25-year solar contract with Sangamon Solar LLC.
The company will build a new 100 MW, 750-acre solar installation in Sangamon County south of Chatham. Construction will start in 2026 with the facility producing power by 2028.
The location was selected because it is near CWLP transmission lines which go directly into the CWLP system.
