DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - The Danville School Board of Education terminated a district administrator at its Wednesday evening meeting and put her on unpaid administrative leave.

Board members considered several motions that would remove Director of Business Narcissus Rankin from her job, effective immediately. Rankin has been with the district since 2015.

Another motion removed her as a tenured teacher. And a third motion placed Rankin on unpaid administrative leave pending her dismissal as a tenured teacher. All motions were passed unanimously.

Before the vote, Rankin pleaded her case during public comment to refute the list of allegations outlined in a letter written by newly-appointed Superintendent John Hart.

"It is difficult not to conclude that this decision is retaliatory and rooted in my relationship with former Superintendent Dr. [Alicia] Geddis," Rankin said.

Rankin said the reasons listed included unpaid late fees, financial controls regarding Geddis' personal credit card, overtime cost, and management of the Business Office.

"To insinuate that I don't understand my fiduciary duty is not only incorrect, it is a direct attack on my professionalism and integrity as a certified school business administrator," Rankin said.

Rankin said she was able to get the late fees waived, and that the former Board approved former Superintendent Geddis' personal credit card use. She added that her office had the lowest overtime cost compared to other departments during the same time period. She said that she had documentation to back everything up and that she had never been notified of any issues with her performance.

Emails to the district superintendent and board president have not been returned as of Wednesday morning.
