DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Decatur City Manager Tim Gleason has announced his resignation.Â
Gleason's resignation will become effective no later than October 31, 2025. This comes after he returned in May 2024.Â
Gleason had the job in Decatur from 2015 to 2018, until he left for Bloomington. Gleason made this move to be closer to his father, who was ill. After six years there, he said he chose Decatur despite an offer to stay in Bloomington and one to take the same position in Florence, Ariz.
Gleason was asked to return to Decatur during what City Communications Coordinator Ryan Huffer calls a "critical period... [providing] steady leadership and strategic guidance over the past 17 months."Â
Mayor Julie Wolfe said, "Tim answered the call to return to Decatur when we needed strong and experienced leadership. He stepped in and delivered - not only on the visible priorities, but also on several complex issues behind the scenes that may never make headlines but were vital to our city's progress."Â
Gleason said, "I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve the City of Decatur once again. This community means a great deal to me. I'm proud of what we've accomplished together - both the projects you can see and many you can't. I leave knowing the city is in a stronger position and well-prepared for what's next."Â
Gleason's resignation was submitted in a formal letter to the City Council. The Council said it respects the reasons for his departure. Those reasons were not shared in the city's announcement.Â
The City Council will start the process for appointing an interim City Manager and starting the search for a permanent replacement.Â
