Decatur Council to appoint Melissa Hon City Manager

Pending an official vote, the Decatur City Council is set to name Melissa Hon as the city’s next permanent City Manager.

DECATUR, Ill. — Pending an official vote, the Decatur City Council is set to name Melissa Hon as the city’s next permanent City Manager.

Hon has served as Interim City Manager since November 1, 2025, following the departure of former City Manager Tim Gleason. City leaders now say they are ready to remove the interim title and make her appointment official.

Hon joined the City of Decatur earlier in 2025, first being hired as Deputy City Manager in February. Prior to her move to Decatur, she served as Director of the Department of Community Impact and Enhancement for the City of Bloomington, Illinois, and brings 25 years of experience working in local government.

She holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Science from Bradley University.

Decatur Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe praised Hon’s leadership during her time as interim manager.

“We are excited to remove the interim tag and name Melissa as the permanent City Manager of Decatur,” Wolfe said. “Through her short but meaningful time leading the City, it became clear that she was the right person for the job. Melissa cares greatly for Decatur, and her vision and goals for the community align perfectly with what the City Council is seeking.”

If approved, Hon’s salary will be $225,000 annually. Her contract also includes six weeks of paid vacation and a $550 monthly vehicle allowance. Hon currently lives in Decatur and will be required to maintain residency in the city throughout her tenure.

An official vote on Hon’s employment contract is scheduled for the February 2, 2026 Decatur City Council meeting. If approved, Hon will immediately begin serving as Decatur’s permanent City Manager.
