DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Hanging up his helmet after 30 years on the job, Decatur Fire Chief Jeff Abbott has officially retired.
Abbott joined the department in 1995 and steadily rose through the ranks, eventually taking leadership in 2014. During his tenure, he oversaw the construction of three new fire stations and the remodeling of four others.
He also introduced new dispatch and data technology to enhance the department's operations.
Thursday, March 13, was officially his last day.
A new Fire Chief will be appointed by the City Manager in the near future.
