Decatur Public Schools welcomed students back to the classroom on Aug. 12.

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Decatur School District #61 custodians are set to go on strike.

The custodians delivered their 10-day strike notice to the Board of Education.

SEIU Local 73 represents 80 custodians who have been in bargaining since February. The board claimed workers are overpaid compared to other districts.

The Decatur Public School District released a statement to WAND saying, "District administration and our negotiation team continue to work with the custodial union group, SEIU-A, in good faith, to reach a fair and equitable agreement for a new contract. Our goal remains to provide a positive outcome that benefits our custodial staff while being fiscally responsible to our community stakeholders."

Workers are set to start striking on or after Monday, September 9.

Bargaining sessions are still scheduled on August 29 and September 4.  Those will include a federal mediator.
