ALTAMONT, Ill. (WAND) - The Charles M. Wright house is a gem in Effingham County.
Found in Altamont, it features what were some of the first instances of certain electrical and structural advancements of its time, including running water in the whole house.
"It just sets our little town off and gives a little something different to have," said Scott Beal of the Effingham County Board.
It had the best of the best furnishings and innovations, and with the first Charles Wright being a doctor, we get to see medical instruments and tools from his own practice.
With many of the original furniture still in place, stepping into any of the 18 rooms will make you feel like you were really there.
"The living room, the informal living room will see one of the fireplaces most of the dining room, then we'll see the kitchen and we'll go upstairs, and we'll see about four bedrooms in a row with all their original furnishings, we'll come downstairs, check out another bedroom, then we'll see the bathroom," Beal said.
It's the only bathroom in the house, and one of the first ones with running water in the area.Â
This past weekend they hosted their 15th annual wine, beer, and music festival. It's their biggest fundraiser of the year and it was a big success!
If you want to go on a tour, visit between 2 and 4 pm each Sunday or by appointment. More information is on the Dr. Charles M. Wright House Facebook page.
