DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Decatur & Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation announced on Saturday it planned to buy a custom mobile surgical veterinary clinic.

DMCASF said it was partnering with the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine to buy a custom-built mobile surgical veterinary clinic.

University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine staff and students will staff the unit that will visit and provide services to areas across central Illinois.

DMCASF anticipates the unit will be in Decatur every three or four weeks.

The primary focus of the mobile clinic will be dog and cat spaying and neutering, as well as providing health and wellness services.

The mobile clinic is expected to be completed by Spring or Summer 2024.

The funding from the Decatur & Macon County Animal Shelter Foundation, which was the lead gift for this joint project, was made possible by a bequest made to the Foundation from the estate of the late Grant S. Staley, of Decatur, who died in 2017.

Information about how to access the services is not available at this time.
