DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Decatur Public Schools #61 Superintendent Dr. Rochelle Clark announced she will retire after the 2025-2026 school year, according to a district spokesperson.
Clark was appointed superintendent of the district in 2022. Before that, she held a variety of roles within the district, including Assistant Superintendent of Support Services, Director of Student Services, and assistant principal at several schools.
“This is a full circle for me," Clark said in a statement released by the district on Friday. "I started my central office career here and I’m retiring here. It is bittersweet. Nevertheless, I know I am leaving the District in very capable hands.”

Her career in education started in 1992 as a special education teacher's aide, according to the district's website. She first came to DPS in 2008.
An East Saint Louis native, Clark holds a bachelor's degree from Harris-Stowe State University, a master's degree from Webster University, and a doctoral degree from Lindenwood University.
DPS Board President Bill Clevenger expressed gratitude for Clark's leadership.
"The Board will discuss a succession plan in the near future but feels the district is in good hands with its current leadership," Clevenger said in a statement to WAND News.
Her retirement comes as the district works to finalize a new strategic five-year plan and how to care for its aging buildings.
Clark will retire in June 2026.
