WASHINGTON (WAND) — Sen. Dick Durbin, (D-Illinois), says the U.S. Supreme Court is in an “ethical crisis.” His comments come after Justice Samuel Alito refused to recuse himself from cases involving the 2020 election and the January 6, 2021 insurrection.

The New York Times reported on two-flags flown on Alito properties. The first was the United States flag being flown upside down at his Virginia home. The second was an ‘Appeal to Heaven’ flag flown at Alito’s New Jersey beach house. Alito blamed both cases on his wife and stated that in a letter to Senator Durbin.

“The flying of these flags marks a new disturbing chapter in the Supreme Court's ongoing ethical crisis,” Durbin stated on the floor of the Senate. “Displaying the upside down American flag and appeal to heaven flag creates the appearance that Justice Alito has already aligned himself with the Stop the Steal campaign.”
