District 186 approves $226K in professional development contracts

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Springfield school board approved more than $226,000 in contracts for professional development.

The money comes from Section 1003 funds, which are funneled from the federal government through the Illinois State Board of Education and target chronically underperforming schools.

District 186's new superintendent, Terrance Jordan, will also undergo new training.

"I received coaching from Focus School as an assistant superintendent and a director, and it was very beneficial. As we're transitioning to these new roles, I reached out to provide coaching and support for us. That will be coming from my fund, the superintendent's budget," Jordan said.

The school board also approved a contract for school psychology services while the district works to fill open school psychologist positions.
