DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – A new way for Decatur area residents to get to and from St. Louis and Chicago.

Bus service provided by FlixBus will operate a Decatur-to-St. Louis service, which will include twice-daily stops in Decatur.

The Decatur City Council unanimously approved the service at its meeting on Monday night.

FlixBus will serve Decatur six days a week. A midday bus at around noon each day and an evening bus around 8 p.m. each night.

Tickets can be purchased at the Transit Center in Downtown Decatur. It is the same location where Decatur Public Transit buses operate.

The new service could begin operations as early as Aug. 1.

Flixbus acquired Greyhound, which had previously operated in Decatur.

The Decatur City Council also approved a plan to require sites like Airbnb and Vrbo to collect the city's 8% hotel and motel tax.

The move comes three years after the city approved the tax requirement for short-term rentals.
