EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WAND) - The Effingham Police Department will be conducting active shooter response training exercises on Tuesday, July 15, and Thursday, July 17.
These drills will take place at Effingham High School and are planned, controlled exercises involving law enforcement, school staff, and emergency responders. There is no actual threat.

- Officers will be in uniform and marked vehicles on campus.
- Simulated scenarios will occur in classrooms, common areas, and on school grounds.
- Training blanks (not live ammunition) will be used occasionally.
- There may be temporary road closures or parking adjustments in the area.
Police ask the community to avoid the school grounds during the drill hours if possible.
Police ensure that these exercises are critical for preparing our officers, school staff, and first responders to effectively respond in the event of a real crisis.
Please refrain from calling 911 regarding this training exercise.
